MS Racing Yamaha has announced that it is stepping up from the 2018 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship to the 2019 FIM Supersport World Championship with rider Maria Herrera, making the 22-year-old Spaniard the first female to compete full-time in the FIM Supersport World Championship.

Herrera finished 13th in the 2018 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship with a best race result of fourth on her MS Racing Yamaha YZF-R3.

Herrera is already committed to race in the 2019 FIM MotoE World Cup for Angel Nieto Team and plans to race in both series, according to Dorna. The MotoE World Cup and Supersport World Championship, however, both race on the weekend of July 5-7, and it’s unknown how Herrera will handle that schedule conflict.
