Traxxion Dynamics Releases 2008 Yamaha R-6 Gas Tank Sliders Traxxion Dynamics has completed production for the 2008 Yamaha R-6 Gas Tank Slider, and they are available for immediate shipment. Several sanctioning bodies have made the gas tank slider a requirement for the 2008 R-6 as well as the 2006-07, and this product meets those requirements. They are now available in two finishes; a rough textured surface that matches the look of the frame, and a smooth shiny surface for people who either like that look, or want to paint the tank and slider together with the tank for a single color. All sliders are made from black ABS plastic and through a new process are vacuum formed and CNC Trimmed for added strength and durability. 2006-07 R-6 Tank sliders are also available now in the same finishes using this same process. We feel it is important to clarify the intent of a gas tank slider. We recently had a racer who was dissatisfied with our product after a crash, and thought it should have held together better than it did. He sent us photos of his destroyed gas tank, showing grinding and crush damage on the entire surface of the tank, including the top. His tank sliders had cracked and one was pulled off completely. The tank did not rupture or catch fire. He neglected to mention that the gas tank was ripped completely off the bike and was found by track workers 80 yards away from the bike”¦ Following is an excerpt of our response: “(The Gas Tank Slider) is simply supposed to act as a sliding barrier between the ground and the protruding metal edge of the tank to prevent the tank from grinding open and the fuel bursting into flames, and potentially soaking the rider with fuel and fire as well. We make no claim that your tank won’t get dented or that the slider won’t explode when you cartwheel your bike, or even that it might not still grind through the slider, through the metal, and still burst into flames. That should be obvious. “In this case, the tank sliders worked perfectly as intended. No fire happened”¦. “When properly applied, the sliders will either have to be crashed off, or pried off with a screwdriver. The shape of the slider fits the tank perfectly. “The slider on the right side of your tank was only partially stuck to the tank. This is because your tank had been previously crashed, and then poorly filled with bondo, and repainted. The shape didn’t match, and so the slider can’t adhere to the airgap that was below it. That is not the fault of the product, either. “We never ever suggest using a crashed and repaired R-6 gas tank. Once the metal is bent and creased, it is just that much easier for it to leak and fail again. The tank you sent in the picture you must throw out for your own safety, and the safety of other riders. “I hope this helps explain what this product is intended to do, and we hope you will better appreciate the extreme savings it generates for such a small amount of money. Never mind your personal safety”¦” Traxxion Dynamics 2006-07 and 2008 R-6 Gas Tank sliders meet all existing sanctioning body requirements, and are available by contacting at 770 592-3823, or through the web at www.traxxion.com.
