Racer Kenny Anderson, age 12, died at 11:58 a.m. today at Children’s Hospital, in Los Angeles, California, according to family spokesman Stoney Landers. Anderson crashed during an AFM 500cc Twins race while riding a rented Kawasaki Ninja 250R March 3 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, in Buttonwillow, California. Earlier in the day he had won the 250cc Production race. Then in the 500cc Twins race, according to a Facebook post by his father, Anderson got into a “big tank slapper” going into the final turn and the front tire dug into the ground, sending the racer over the handlebars. Anderson suffered a head injury in the crash and had been comatose since. Anderson’s family posted a statement to the Kenny Anderson Fan Page on Facebook at approximately 2:00 p.m. PDT Monday that read: “Kenny was declared brain dead today. He died doing what he loved, and what he excelled at. I have no doubt that there was nowhere on Earth Kenny would rather have been last weekend than at the racetrack, racing his motorcycles and hanging out with his friends. I’m sorry that all the thoughts and prayers we have received were not enough to bring him back, but please know that your love and comforting words really helped us get through the past week. Please keep Kenny The Iceman #12 in your thoughts. Live your lives to the fullest, and hug your children every day.” Anderson began his racing career on Blata pocket bikes. He won SCMiniGP Rookie of the Year and won championships with SCMiniGP, SMRRC, and AMMA. He then moved up to an NSR50 and an NSR65, winning multiple races and championships on both. Anderson raced a pair of Honda RS125 chassis fitted with 150cc and 145cc four-stroke motors, and then moved to Honda RS125s. Anderson was the reigning Heavyweight Twins Superbike Novice and Formula 2 Novice Champion with WERA West. Anderson is survived by his father Eric, his mother Jiew, his brother David and his sister Narissa. Information on any memorial service will be posted when it becomes available.
