Tour of Utah, Local Racing Series in Action This Weekend at Miller Motorsports Park TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH “” An interesting variety of two- and four-wheeled competition is on tap this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, including three of the facility’s local racing series and the final stage of the 2008 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. The sixth round of this year’s seven-round Miller Park Racing Association series will take place on Saturday. Drivers in three racing groups will be racing on the 2.2-mile East Course, competing for trophies and points toward class and series championship. Complete practice, qualifying and race sessions will be held on Saturday with two races for each race group. Also participating will be the third and final 2008 round of the RallySport Direct Lap Battle series, a Time Attack series for street and modified cars. Time Attack is a non-contact form of racing originated in Japan that has been massively embraced by the tuner car community. There will be three classes: Front-Wheel-Drive, Rear-Wheel-Drive and All-Wheel Drive. Also on Saturday, the fifth round of the 2008 Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship will take place. Supermoto is the fastest-growing form of motorcycle sport in America, a hybrid that combines pavement road racing with motocross. The riders compete on modified motocross bikes with slick tires on Miller Motorsports Park’s state-of-the-art Supermoto circuit that utilizes the 0.9-mile Miller Kart Track with two dirt motocross sections. Riders will be competing in 13 classes for trophies and championship points. The fifth round of this year’s seven-race Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains series will take place on Saturday and Sunday. The series, developed by Miller Motorsports Park, organized by the Utah Sportbike Association (USBA) and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), was created to encourage and develop fun and competitive road racing at the club and regional levels. Riders will be competing on the 2.2-mile West Course in 18 different classes for contingency money (provided by sponsors for using their products in some classes), trophies and points toward the series’ class championship. Also on Sunday will be the fifth and final stage of the 2008 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, part of the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar and billed as “America’s Toughest Stage Race.” After four days of diverse terrain and some 30,000 feet of elevation change, some of the most talented bicycle racers in the sport will race to the finish in the KJZZ Time Trial on a circuit comprising the access roads and the East Course at MMP. The race will get underway at 10:00 am and should conclude around noon. Tickets for the weekend are priced at only $5 per day. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. The Miller Kart Track’s auxiliary paddock track will be open for concession rentals on Saturday, with the main circuit available on Sunday. Also, the Miller Motorsports Park Club House will be open to the public all weekend.
