A LAP OF BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK WITH JASON DISALVO Birmingham, Ala. — The Triumph Superbike Classic is set for June 22-24 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham and Daytona SportBike race winner Jason DiSalvo of the Latus Motors Racing Triumph team is one of the AMA Pro Racing competitors looking forward to the race. DiSalvo now lives about 25 minutes from Barber Motorsports Park and calls it his “home track.” The Daytona SportBike race winner is a big fan of the atmosphere at the race and the action-packed lap. DiSalvo describes a lap around the 2.38 miles of Barber Motorsports Park: “Leading onto the front straight past the start-finish line, it’s a bit of a short straight,” said the Trussville, AL resident. “You get up to fourth gear and come back a gear into turn one. Turn one’s a fast and flowing left hander, down the hill and into turn two. You run around the long, long turn two. It’s a long carousel that comes up into a little short chute before the turn three kink. Going up into that one, it’s like you climb a hill like a wall of pavement sitting in front of you. It’s a steep hill.” “You climb up over that and then you go down the middle straight and then down into the spider hairpin, Charlotte’s Web. It’s a tricky corner because it falls off downhill into the braking zone and catches a lot of guys out. You see a lot of guys run wide there. It’s a great passing opportunity, though, probably the best one on the track.” “Out of Charlotte’s Web, you run into the fast turn six sweeper, up over the rumble strips and then drop down into the Museum Turn. There’s a lot of good elevation in this area,” DiSalvo continued. “Coming out of the Museum Turn, you have the first of two really fast chicanes. Just past the museum it’s left, then right an ultrafast chicane and then you blast down a little short chute into the second one. The second has some elevation change as well. You drop down into the gulley, left, then turn it right and come back up the hill in what’s widely known amongst the riders as the ‘Wheelie Hill’ at Barber Motorsports Park.” “Then you come into the long, long carousel corner that runs all the way around the back section of the track,” said DiSalvo. “Ultimately, it tightens up into the penultimate corner in the lap. It’s a right-hander and it’s one of the last passing opportunities, so you see a lot of action here in the races. You bend it in right harder and harder, then flick it left for the last corner and get back on the straight. That’s a lap at Barber Motorsports Park.” The Triumph Superbike Classic is the sixth event of the season for the AMA Pro Road Racing Series and marks the 10th season Barber has hosted the series. The weekend will consist of seven races and three days of action-packed activities on the track, as well as off the track. In addition to the two marquee National Guard Superbike Series races, the weekend will feature two races in the GoPro Daytona SportBike class, Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class and one race in the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series. Tickets for the Triumph Superbike Classic start at just $15 and can be purchased at www.barbermotorsports.com. Kids 15 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. The Motorcycle Super Saver package is available until June 21st with access to three motorcycle events at Barber Motorsports Park in 2012, along with complimentary motorcycle parade laps during the Triumph Superbike Classic. While at Barber Motorsports Park, fans are encouraged to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a 144,000 square foot home to the largest private collection of motorcycles, representing 20 countries and over 200 manufacturers. Tickets to the Museum are available for an additional fee and can be purchased at the door.
