Tom Dorsey, AFM 36, to ride Bernd Koegler’s Historic Honda CB750F AMA Superbike in the AFM season opener July 18-19 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
Dorsey will open his 32nd consecutive season as an active competition member with the American Federation of Motorcyclists riding the classic Honda CB750F Superbike and is entered to race in the CSRA (Classic Superbike Racing Association) Saturday Superbike Shootout and Vintage classes. Tom’s career with the AFM is the longest consecutive active streak amongst the current membership.

Tom and Bernd’s Honda both have significant history with the AFM and Superbike racing. It’s great to see Tom keeping his streak and history alive with our organization. Tom will also be racing with CSRA at the upcoming Laguna Seca MotoAmerica event Oct. 23rd-25th in Monterey.”
The Honda CB750F Dorsey will be riding was raced during the Golden Era of AMA Superbike racing and was piloted by Bernd Koegler. Bernd raced the Honda during the early 80s and campaigned the bike until 1985 when he retired from professional racing. Bernd was a true privateer racing against the top factory teams of the day on his home built Honda at Daytona, Riverside, Laguna and had his best finish of 8th at his home track Sears Point in 1984.
The Honda CB750F will be the 34th different motorcycle raced by Dorsey over his career, but only the 3rd Honda following a CB-1 and RS125 in the early ‘90’s. Other bikes in this period were in all displacement classes including numerous successful seasons on SV650’s and most recently on a 1981 Yamaha Seca 550.
In addition to several class championships, Dorsey has earned a couple overall top 10’s with AFM. His competition has included racing with AMA, AHRMA, NASB and WSMC at tracks like Daytona and Laguna Seca. Dorsey has also been elected to several positions on the AFM board of directors for 20 of those years, served as Chief Tech Inspector for several years and is currently the Technical Manager for MotoAmerica (and previously with AMA and AMA Pro including select Speedway and Flat Track events back to 2002).
