AHRMA Historic Races and More at PIR May 1-2, 2010 marks a milestone for Pacific Northwest Motorcycling and Portland International Raceway (PIR). The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) will run its first-ever national road race in our corner of the country. The Portland AHRMA Classic will showcase their full mix of vintage and modern grids. You’ll witness low-slung BMWs from the 1950s, grudge matches between Harley and Indian hand-shifters, see a gaggle of Honda CB160s launched LeMans style, smell two-stroke exhaust from proper 1970s GP bikes, and hear the rumble of modern Ducatis in Battle of Twins. Racing occurs both Saturday and Sunday starting at noon. Road racing, however, is just the beginning. The Portland AHRMA Classic is a festival of two-wheeled people and activities. The Old Vanport Motocross will blend the PIR MX track and the surrounding natural grass terrain for a unique challenge to Vintage and Evolution bikes. Also on tap: Pre-1980 judged motorcycle show, motorcycle gymkhana, a scooter race, Vendor Row showcasing Northwest motorcycle dealers and parts suppliers, stunt riders, club ride-ins, parade laps, and a motorcycle and scooter swap meet. The event is a fundraiser for motorcycle related activities, activism and injury prevention. More at ~http://www.portlandahrmaclassic.com/~.
