CHRIS FILLMORE TACKLES 13TH ANNUAL BARBER VINTAGE FESTIVAL ABOARD A READY TO RACE LINEUP OF KTM MOTORCYCLES
Barber Motorsports Park – October 10, 2017
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With the support of KTM Motorsports and HMC Racing, KTM’s in-house road racer Chris Fillmore represented the orange brand in a big way over the weekend for the 13th Annual Barber Vintage Festival, held at the iconic Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. For the fourth consecutive year, Fillmore competed in the AHRMA-sanctioned road racing event aboard a READY TO RACE lineup of KTM motorcycles including the 1290 SUPER DUKE R, the RC 390 and an HMC Racing-built 450 SX-F SUPERMOTO bike.
Noted as the second largest motorsports event in the U.S., the Barber Vintage Festival is more than just a nostalgic event, drawing tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts over the course of the weekend, which includes a full schedule of AHRMA racing on-track. The highlight of the race weekend was the Formula Thunder Pro Challenge – a brand new feature of the schedule for 2017. With an $18,000 race purse, the class drew a host of road racing talent from past and present. Fillmore qualified 6th aboard the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, where the former AMA Pro Superbike racer followed up with a consistent performance of 6th overall amidst a stacked class of fellow superbike racers.
Additionally, Fillmore competed in the Sound of Singles 3 class where he showcased the 2017 KTM RC 390 in the center of the podium. After starting on the last row due to not having any standing in the overall championship, Fillmore climbed his way to the front of the pack to secure his first victory of the weekend. Lastly, the former AMA Pro Supermoto racer went back to his roots with a 2018 KTM 450 SX-F converted into a SUPERMOTO bike, set up by the HMC Racing crew specifically to compete in the Motard division. There, Fillmore was able to take a convincing win to round out his fun-filled weekend of racing.
Chris Fillmore: “This year was my fourth consecutive year competing at the AHRMA Barber Vintage Festival and every year I get to race multiple KTM models – ranging from my AMA Superbike RC8, to the RC CUP RACEBIKES, 450 SUPERMOTO bikes, the 690 DUKE, 1290 SUPER DUKE R and even a 1974 Penton 400 in the offroad race. It’s a true one-of-a-kind motorsports event and I’m happy that KTM is so committed to its READY TO RACE philosophy and that they’ve chosen me to continue showcasing their products in the most enjoyable way possible, by racing!”
In addition to the racing activities, KTM North America, Inc. was on-site for the third consecutive year with a full-fleet of STREET motorcycles for consumers to demo throughout the weekend.
