Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix This Weekend

Vintage and contemporary road racing motorcycles, sidecars, Supermoto and off-road racing on tap

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (September 2, 2015) — Miller Motorsports Park will be transformed into a rolling museum of motorcycle racing history this weekend, September 5-6, as the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association returns for the 10th annual Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix Motorcycle Festival.

The longest-running annual event at Miller Motorsports Park, the Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix attracts vintage and historic road racing motorcycles from the 1940s to the 1980s.

The weekend schedule includes a practice day on Friday, followed by racing on both Saturday and Sunday, all on the 2.2-mile East Course. Following morning practice sessions, racing will start at noon on both days, with 11 races scheduled each day.

Included in the event will be the extremely popular Le Mans-start “Battle of the CB-160s” race. To start this race, the racers must run across the track to a “bike holder,” bump-start their motorcycle then battle for the lead.

Also included will be two rounds of vintage and modern sidecar racing with the Sidecar Racers Association West, making their second appearance of the year at MMP.

On the MMP West Course, the Utah Sport Bike Association will hold Round 5 of their six-round 2015 Vortex Masters of the Mountains championship, with the best amateur motorcycle road racers from throughout the Intermountain West competing in 26 different classes. They will have practice sessions each morning, with feature sprint races starting at 11:45 a.m. on both days.

On Sunday morning at the Miller Kart Track, the fifth and final round of the 2015 Utah Supermoto Championship will take place, with practice from 8:00 a.m. until 9:20 a.m. and two feature motos at 9:20 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

Also taking place this weekend will be the season finale of the five-round 2015 Lucas Oil Off Road Regional Racing Series championship on Miller Motorsports Park’s Off Road Short Course, with a variety of off-road machinery racing on Saturday.

Off the track, Saturday’s Motorcycle Classics Vintage Motorcycle Show will feature an unusual collection of vintage bikes, with Norton being honored as the featured marque. On Sunday, Suicide Lane Cycles will host a Custom Bike Show. Motorcycle-riding spectators will be allowed to ride the track during lunchtime on Saturday and Sunday for $10/day, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, a facility which will provide free housing to cancer patients (and their caregivers) from throughout the Intermountain West.In addition, the Miller Kart Track will be open for kart rentals throughout the weekend.

Tickets will be available at the MMP Box Office for the ninth annual Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix, priced at $10/day or $15/weekend for adults, with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge. All patrons arriving on motorcycles will be admitted free of charge, and there will be a free gear check provided for motorcyclists courtesy of the Christian Motorcycle Association. There will be no admission fee on Friday, and parking is free throughout the weekend.
