Bonneville Vintage GP at Miller Motorsports Park to Provide Two-Wheeled Fun for Everyone TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (September 5, 2007) Motorcycle enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend, September 7-9, as Miller Motorsports Park hosts the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) and the Bonneville Vintage GP. AHRMA sanctions road racing events for a wide variety of historic and vintage racing motorcycles ranging from the 1930s to 2000. The weekend schedule includes practice sessions on Friday, followed by racing on both Saturday and Sunday. Some very special guests will be on hand, including motorcycle racing legends Don Emde (Daytona 200 winner and Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee, serving as Grand Marshal), Dave Roper (the only American to win at the Isle of Man) and Doug Polen (two-time World Superbike Champion). The on-track action will include the first-ever Utah appearance of Sidecar Racing, the two-man, three-wheeled contraptions that defy gravity as the passenger, known as “The Monkey,” scrambles all over the back of the machine to maximize traction as they race through the corners. Another highlight of the racing action will be the “Battle of the CB160s.” In the 1960s, the Honda CB160 was a very popular, 160cc street motorcycle that hundreds of racers adapted for the racetrack, renowned for its fierce cornering ability. Somewhere between 25 and 40 of these petite race bikes will be on hand for the weekend, and their races will feature a Le Mans-type standing start, where the riders must run across the track and mount their bikes with a push start. One particularly rare machine on hand for the weekend will be a Britten Superbike, one of the rarest and most technologically advanced racing motorcycles ever built. It was created by New Zealander John Britten, who founded his company in 1992 and designed world-record-setting motorcycles with innovative features that were years ahead of contemporary design. Unfortunately, Britten’s untimely death in 1995 made the 12 bikes he constructed instant museum pieces. The Britten will be on display and will run some demonstration laps. In addition to the racing, there will be a Concours d’Elegance for vintage and historic motorcycles, a swap meet, numerous vendors, a police motorcycle competition and a custom bike show, plus a raffle for a vintage Honda CB160. Friday will be practice sessions, with racing on both Saturday and Sunday. “We are thrilled to return to Miller Motorsports Park for the second consecutive year,” said event coordinator Tom Kullen. “Larry Miller has built a fantastic racing facility, and our riders are very much looking forward to racing there again.” Tickets for the Bonneville Vintage GP are priced from $10 per day, and are available at the Miller Motorsports Park Welcome Center or online at www.ticketmaster.com. As always, children aged 12 and under are free. For more information, call the track at (435) 277-RACE or visit the website at www.millermotorsportspark.com.
