21st Annual Corsa MotoClassica

Vintage Road Racing at Willow Springs International Raceway

Goodlettsville, TN – For the 21st consecutive year, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association’s (AHRMA) CPL Systems National Historic Cup Roadrace Series will visit Rosamond, California’s Willow Springs International Raceway for the Corsa MotoClassica weekend. The 2016 edition takes place April 22-24 at the historic venue, and features vintage and modern road racing, an impressive bike show, swap meet, vendors, road racing school and vintage observed trials.

This year we are honoring two fine individuals who we lost during 2015, and who always helped to make visiting Willow Springs Raceway and Corsa MotoClassica an extra-special experience — Bill Huth and Gil Vaillancourt. Bill had a very colorful life as an entrepreneur before he purchased the Willow Springs track in the 1960s. He advocated rider safety, and modified his track in an effort to improve conditions for racers at a time when most tracks refused to do so. Gil was a pioneer of modern-day motorcycle suspension products and could always be found during Corsa weekends near the café with his line-up of beautiful motorcycles. We know these two will be watching over us as we race all weekend.

Ramming Speed Racing has teamed-up with local businesses and moto-centric companies to make this year’s Corsa MotoClassica a memorable stop on the AHRMA National circuit. There will be special trophies for Saturday’s races handcrafted by the Toad Town Racing crew. Led by sorcerer Gary Swan, the team includes Brady Walker, Caroline Patterson and Chad Williams, who worked long and hard to get these trophies “just right” !

Thanks to our event sponsors, there will be a barbecue dinner to be enjoyed at Saturday evening’s awards ceremony. A donation of $10 per plate is encouraged, with all proceeds to benefit the AHRMA Benevolent Fund. The staff at Willow Springs has been kind enough to allow the use of the café for the awards presentation.

Purple Rims racer Joe Weir, of Portlandia, created this year’s Corsa event poster. Weir had a large vinyl banner printed, which is to be signed by all the racers and auctioned-off at the awards ceremony; all proceeds will be donated AHRMA’s Benevolent Fund.

This year’s Grand Marshal will be Tony Murphy, dubbed “The King of Willow Springs” for his numerous victories at the circuit during the Golden Years. Tony was instrumental in the development of early Yamaha road racers, secretly testing motorcycles at Willow Springs with wild success, and was victorious at the first motorcycle race held at legendary Loudon, New Hampshire. Murphy has been attending AHRMA races for years, and is honored to serve as Grand Marshal; he will be signing autographs on this year’s event poster during lunch on Saturday — be sure say hi if you run into him!
