24 year old Alex Cudlin has gone one step closer to winning his first Qatar championship, after a dominant display at the weekend’s Round 4 of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship. Alex began proceedings by topping the time sheets in the first official practice and then went one step further by securing pole positions for the 2 races the following day. In race one, Alex got off to a good start in a close fight with his team mate, Mashel Al Niami, and another local rider, Nasser Al Maiki. By lap 4 Alex made his intentions clear to his two closest rivals by setting the fastest lap of the race and taking the lead, which quickly grew to a 6 second gap in front by lap 10. Alex then proceeded to maintain a consistently fast pace and controlled the remainder of the race to cross the line as the winner. With just one hour between race one and race two, Alex opted to keep the suspension settings the same for the second race. With heavy winds and sand blowing on the track when the riders lined up for race two, Alex knew the race would be unpredictable. Alex again got off to a fast pace and on the 2nd lap made his move into the lead, with a pretty quick Al Niami following closely behind. Alex then proceeded to put a succession of laps together that have been the fastest of the 2011 season, to finally cross the line 6 seconds ahead of Al Niami and clinch his 7th win from 8 starts in the 2010/2011 Championship. “The weekend was perfect in terms of results. I managed to top the time sheets in every single session. I qualified on pole position, scored the fastest lap in both races and won both races, so it was a perfect score really. Race one was great. I got a good gap and then just made sure it was mistake free to win the race. I wasn’t sure how race two would go, as the wind was really severe, but the bike felt great and I managed to set the fastest 15 laps of this year, as well as a really fast race lap, so I am very happy with how I performed” said Cudlin. Alex has stepped closer to winning his first Qatar International Road Racing Championship. The current World Endurance Superstock World Cup Champion has been unstoppable this season and with just 3 rounds remaining is looking a hot favourite to win the title. “Last year I finished 2nd in the title. I missed 3 races and that hurt me in terms of points, but this new season has been great for me. I have managed to win 7 from 8 races and I’m getting closer to winning the title for the first time. Consistency is the key for the remainder of the championship, but I would sure love to wrap up the title soon, before I start my 2011 World Title bid” Cudlin said. Alex will now have 4 weeks off before he takes to the track for round 5 of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship, which will run in support to Round one of the 2011 MotoGP Championship.
