Australia’s Alex Cudlin (QMMF Kawasaki ZX-10R) created history at the weekend when he wrapped up his fifth straight Qatari Superbike Championship title after taking 3-2 results in the final round of the 2014-15 series at the Losail Circuit in Doha, Qatar.

Cudlin finished the Championship seven points clear of title rival Mashel Al Naimi (Honda CBR1000RR). Third in the championship went to BMW S 1000 RR rider, Nasser Al Malki.

Cudlin’s fifth title was his hardest earned yet, after a disastrous round three in which he walked away with only three points and dropped far behind then title leader Al Naimi.

Regardless, the Taree rider put his head down over the following six races, never finishing below second place to whittle down Al Naimi’s title lead and eventually hit the front with one round remaining.

Cudlin was understandably over the moon to take his fifth title.

Alex Cudlin: “I had to change my strategy this weekend. Usually I’m going for the race wins but this time I just concentrated on getting podiums. I knew on points if I got two podium places it would be enough to seal the title.
I didn’t have to push as hard as I normally would this weekend. I just rode cautious and smart to made sure I got the job done.

“I’m super happy to win my fifth title in a row – it’s pretty awesome feeling. Obviously this year was tough due to the fact we had the engine breakdown in round three, but I spent the rest of the season chipping away at Mashel’s lead and to eventually climb back on top was very rewarding. It shows just how well my team and QMMF have worked over the past five years to not be beaten. Other then the issue in round 3 we never finished off the podium in the 14 race series. That’s a pretty remarkable season. I obviously can’t thank my team QMMF and my mechanics enough. They worked hard all season and to finish the job off with another title was perfect.

“I would also like to thank my sponsors for the 2015 season because without them it wouldn’t have been possible.”
