Michelin PRO Series – Barber Motorsports Park Sanctioned by ASRA Beautiful weather welcomed riders, crew and fans to the gorgeous Barber Motorsports Park for 2009’s Round 6 of the Michelin PRO Series sanctioned by ASRA. First on the slate of Michelin PRO classes was Superstock. Brian Stokes got out to an early lead challenged by Sean Dwyer. Dwyer has had a good season so far so it was no surprise to see him trailing Stokes closely by lap three. Lap after lap the duo pressed on with the crowd expecting Dwyer to pass on the entrance to turn five where he seemed to have a clear advantage over Stokes. But Stokes’ horsepower held Dwyer at bay and they finished one-two, Stokes taking the win and Mike DeBrabant finishing third. SuperBike promised to pit Points Leader Paul Allison and Stokes in a repeat of their epic battle in New Jersey two weeks ago. Allison got an excellent start and led into turn one, maintaining position until the back stretch where Stokes was able to challenge and take the lead. Lap two saw Allison re-assert and take Stokes up the inside in turn five, but Stokes was able to re-pass in the chicane and opened a small gap on the back stretch. By lap three Stokes had a nine-length lead as they passed the flag stand, but Allison reeled in the number 34 bike by turned five and just passed on the inside of five again, this time making it stick and taking a small gap over Stokes down the back stretch. Everyone expected Stokes to make up the three to five-length lead Allison maintained, yet he did not and the finishing order was Allison four lengths from Stokes followed by Andres Londono. In ThunderBike championship contender and Buell rider Joel Spaulding got the hole-shot and lead into turn one, but by exit of turn three Dan Bilansky had put his Buell into a 10-length lead. BMW rider Nate Kern moved up to third with a pass on Spaulding in turn five and challenged Bilansky for the lead as the pair entered turn ten. As the group poured onto the front straight Kern had snatched the lead from Bilansky. Sam Rozynski had moved up to third. Kern had the measure of the field and easily took the win. Bilansky was second and exited the weekend with a 20-point lead in ThunderBike with two rounds remaining. Amateur Jordan Richardson aboard the Ray Price Harley-Davidson Buell entry failed to disappoint again and placed his bike on the podium in the third spot. The final ASRA race of the weekend was the Factory Pro SportBike and Stokes and Allison matched up for another nail-biter. Stokes made great start and maintained the lead until lap two when Allison over took him on braking into turn one. Coming out of turn five Stokes was third as Londono had picked up the second spot when Stoke lost traction and recovered in turn two. By lap three Stokes had regained second place, but just could not make up the deficit to Allison. Allison won by three seconds from Stokes, followed by Londono 2.4 seconds back. The next round is number seven of eight and happens at Virginia International on September 20, 2009 at the End of Summer Cyclefest.
