SAN MARINO, AND THE MISANO WORLD CIRCUIT, ARE THE NEXT DESTINATIONS FOR THE ALTHEA RACING TEAM Misano Adriatico (Italy): The Althea Racing team and riders Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano are all set for the 2012 World Superbike championship’s seventh event, the San Marino round, taking place at the Misano World Circuit this coming weekend. This will be Checa’s fifth Superbike visit to the Misano World Circuit. He has had good and bad experiences here, the high being his double win just last season which he secured in spite of an interruption to race 2. Giugliano also has great memories of racing here last year; he triumphed in the Superstock 1000 race, winning it with more than a three second advantage over his closest rival. Two weeks ago the Althea Racing team was in the United States where current champion Carlos stormed to victory in race 1 at the Miller Motorsports Park, his fourth win of the season so far. Unfortunately he did not score points in the second race, crashing out early on. Davide continued to demonstrate great promise with eleventh and seventh place finishes in the two races. With six of the planned fourteen rounds already behind them, Checa now lies in fifth position in the standings with 130.5 points, while Davide is in ninth place with 64 points. Ducati continues to dominate in the manufacturer’s championship with 195.5 points to BMW’s 176. Carlos Checa: “I was very disappointed about the race 2 crash at Miller, not what we needed after the race one win. But now I’m concentrating on Misano where I hope to make two great races in front of the Italian crowd. It will be a tough weekend but I’m confident that we can be competitive. We need to understand the conditions, the grip and our rivals’ level but if we work hard, and avoid taking unnecessary risks, I know we can take solid results at Misano, a track that I enjoy and where you can always count on the enthusiastic support of the fans.” Checa’s Superbike form at Misano: 2011: Race 1- winner, Race 2 winner 2010: Race 1- 2nd, Race 2 5th 2009: Race 1 11th, Race 2 5th 2008: Race 1 5th, Race 2 8th Davide Giugliano: “As I’ve said in the past, this year is all about growing and building up experience. I’ve had ups and downs in the first half of this season but now we are at the mid-point of the championship, I hope to be able to score more consistently strong results. I like the Misano track, and won here last year so I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do here with the Superbike.” CIRCUIT DATA: Country: Italia Circuit: Misano World Circuit Length: 4.226 km Pole Position: left Race distance: 24 laps/101.424 km LAP RECORDS: Best lap Biaggi (Aprilia) 1’36.344 (2011).
