K&N co-founder, former K&N Motorcycles dealership owner, former racer, and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Norm McDonald and his wife Lucy are celebrating their retirement and their 63rd wedding anniversary with a party Saturday, May 12, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In a post on his Facebook page, Norm McDonald invited everyone to come out from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time to enjoy food and refreshments, to celebrate with him and Lucy, and to meet the new owners of K&N Motorcycles, “the oldest Yamaha dealership in the world,” according to www.knmotorcycles.com.
K&N Motorcycles was opened by Norm McDonald and his partner Ken Johnson in Riverside County, California in 1957. Norm and Lucy McDonald sold it effective April 1st, after 61 years in business. Their son Pat will continue to manage it for the new owners and many of the existing staff have stayed on as well.
In 1965, Johnson and McDonald formed K&N Engineering, with the K&N representing Ken & Norm. Although it started out making handlebars, fenders and fork braces, K&N Engineering soon developed its first air filter, for which it is best known.
In 1971, McDonald relocated K&N Motorcycles to Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Johnson stayed in California to run K&N Engineering.
