Yamaha R6 Riders Sweep The Podium In AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 2 At Barber Motorsports Park; JD Beach Finishes Fifth For Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha
Birmingham, AL – June 22, 2014 – Yamaha YZF-R6 riders continued their dominance of the ultra-competitive AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class, as Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby did the double and took his second DSB win of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. MotoSport.com Meen Yamaha’s Jake Lewis was second, while RoadRace Factory/Yamaha’s Jake Gagne completed the R6 triumvirate at the top of the finishing order.
Throughout the 19-lap race, a pack of five riders battled it out for the win, and among them was JD Beach, rider of the #6 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R6. JD made several challenges for a top-three finish in the race, but a small mistake late in the contest caused him to ride off the track. He was able to rejoin the race quickly, but with only a couple of laps left before the checkered flag, JD did good work to keep his R6 upright and salvage a fifth-place finish.
JD’s teammate Garrett Gerloff suffered a wrist injury in Saturday’s DSB race, and he was unable to start the race on Sunday. The prognosis is good for the rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider, and he is expected to return to action in the next round of the AMA Pro Road Racing season.
That next round will commence on the weekend of July 11-13 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA, as the stars of AMA Pro Racing compete on the world stage during the FIM World Superbike Championship’s only U.S. stop.

DOUBLE–O DANE: WESTBY SHOWCASES LICENSE TO WIN IN ALABAMA
Yamalube Rider Stays Gold With A Different Type Of Victory
Birmingham, AL (June 21, 2014) – Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby emerged victorious again on Sunday. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native staged an unlikely charge through the pack to earn a second win of the weekend to sweep AMA Pro Daytona SportBike at Barber Motorsports Park. Dane moved from sixth to the front, picking off one rider at a time in the Turn 14, 15, and 16 section and setting the race’s quick laps in the process. After the checkered flag, Westby found himself hoisting another trophy.
“Yesterday was a first for me when I led the race and won it that way. Today, I felt like these guys had a leg up on me,” said Westby. “I wasn’t quite as comfortable as I wanted to be early on. I was a little slow in some parts of the track but I was really good in the ‘Alabama Rollercoaster,’ as they call it. It was a real barnburner of a race, super hot out there and the conditions were tough. I put my head down and waited until my moment. I passed everyone back there in the back, just a block pass and then making it stick. I had some different lines where I could hold it until the end and earn the position. It was a really great race, and I am proud of what we were able to accomplish.”
Westby topped fellow Yamalube-sponsored rider Jake Lewis and Jake Gagne. He dedicated this win to the National Down Syndrome Society.
Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Chuck Giacchetto said, “We’re one big family on this team, but today, we have to give it up to our rider. He’s the one who made this one happen. Dane is such a unique racer with a different style than just about anyone else on and off the track. I’m actually pretty speechless. We need about 24 hours for these wins to sink in.”
Westby and Yamalube/Westby Racing will next race at Laguna Seca, July 11-13.

IMPROVEMENT FOR ROBERTS ON SUNDAY AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Team Hammer and Joe Roberts closed out a difficult AMA ProRoad Racing weekend at Barber Motorsports Park with a 16th-placeresult in Sunday’s Daytona SportBike contest.
M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Racing’s Roberts was fighting anuphill battle from the start, after an issue during qualifying forced him tostart the weekend’s twin 19-lap DSB races from the 18th spot on thegrid. He made impressive progress during Saturday’s race aboard his CBR600RR onlyto crash out of a potential top-ten performance.
The 17-year-old Californian came back on Sunday and pickedup a 16th-place result. He battled with two other riders for a placein the top 15 throughout the race but came up just 0.21 seconds short in theend.
The up-and-coming star summed up his frustrating return tothe scene of last year’s spectacular double-win AMA Pro debut: “Well, atleast I didn’t crash today. This weekend hasn’t really gone well. We hadaproblem with the bike in qualifying and I only caught the last couple ofminutes. So we qualified 18th.
“Saturday I caught a group fighting for a spot in thetop ten but I came through Turn 12 and hit a seam and just crashed. And today,I got an okay start. I got to racing with a couple riders but that’s not whereI want to be, battling back there. It’s a real bummer.
“We need track time to develop the bike and find outwhat’s going on. When we only get maybe 30 laps, it’s not good. The two-dayschedule didn’t help in that regard. I have to go back and do some moretraining, and get a little more flexible. The hand hurts still, it’s notcompletely healed up and I tweaked my knee so that’s hurting a little bit aswell.”
Roberts is optimistic that he and Team Hammer can turn theirluck around when the AMA Pro Road Racing season resumes on July 11-13 at one of his favorite tracks — Laguna Seca.
