ROBERTS FINISHES 2014 SEASON IN NEW JERSEY
Team Hammer and M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Racing’s Joe Roberts concluded the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season on Sunday at New Jersey Motorsport Park.
Roberts came into the day still riding high after securing his best finish of the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike season the day before, however, Sunday’s contest would not prove quite as rewarding.
After the 17-year-old finished sixth in the rain the day before, Roberts and the team decided to take a chance on the set-up of his CBR600RR as they continued to seek a breakthrough setting that would allow the up-and-comer to ride with confidence and leverage the full depth of his considerable natural talent.
However, the roll of the dice did not pay off as hoped and he ultimately finished the season with a 14th place ride, less than a tenth of a second back of 13th.
“Of course, we’re not satisfied,” Roberts admitted. “Yesterday was a good confidence booster but running in the rain is different than running in the dry. Today I tried to see if we could make some progress on the bike and make some progress with it. We gambled a little and it didn’t pay off. It’s a bummer, but I’m looking to coming back stronger next year.”
Roberts collected 52 points on the season to complete the 2014 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike ranked 16th.

UNCAGED: ‘WOLVERINE’ WESTBY FINISHES THIRD IN NEW JERSEY, MAULS HIS WAY TO THIRD IN 2014 POINTS
Millville, NJ (September 14, 2014) — Dane Westby closed out the 2014 AMA Pro GoPro season with another podium finish, earning third in a hard-fought contest in New Jersey to back up his Saturday win and pole. “The Wolverine” began the year with a pair of disappointing DNFs but three wins and five total podium results saw the team rise up to third in series points. It was a remarkable accomplishment from a brand-new team.
Dane didn’t make effective use from his pole position but rode hard and worked his way through the field. By the time he’d risen to second, the Tulsa, Oklahoma native had used much of his rear tire and was left to fight for position, eventually earning third.
“It was really a good race. I got a terrible start once again but I was able to pick some guys off. I think we made the wrong tire choice, but it was rider error on the start that really caused that,” said Westby. “It was a really fun race, and I won’t get to race again for several months, at least. What a scrap there at the end! Tires on leathers and close racing … it brought a smile to my face, and what I’ll remember about this one was the close racing. Any time you’re up on the podium is good and thanks to everyone on the team, to Tryg my dad, and to everyone at Yamalube.”
“We finished top three in the points, and it was a Yamaha sweep in Daytona SportBike with two of the three teams sponsored by the Customer Service Group out of Kennesaw, Georgia,” said team manager Chuck Giacchetto. “We tried really hard to do well all season and we had some good results. Huge accolades go to the team and all the crew. The crew did a great job all year. We were the little train that could. Dane rode really well this year, and I am proud of everyone’s efforts. It’s obvious we came together well. We’re looking forward to testing in the off-season and seeing what happens in the new year.”

Gagne Wins As Yamaha R6 Riders Sweep Top Five In Daytona SportBike Race 2 At New Jersey Motorsports Park
Millville, NJ – September 14, 2014 – The sun came out at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and Yamaha shone brightly in Sunday’s final AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race of the 2014 season as Yamaha YZF-R6 riders not only swept the podium, but also the top five.
On the top step of the podium was RoadRace Factory/Yamaha’s Jake Gagne, who won Sunday’s race just one day after clinching the 2014 DSB Championship. Finishing 2nd on Sunday was Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Garrett Gerloff. And rounding out the rostrum for Sunday was Dane Westby of Yamalube/Westby Racing, who was the winner of Saturday’s DSB Race 1 in New Jersey and finished the DSB season in 3rd place in the standings.
MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha’s Jake Lewis rode a strong race on Sunday to finish 4th, and he also wrapped up 2nd place in the 2014 DSB Championship. Garrett’s Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate JD Beach finished 5th in the race and also 5th in the season points standings.
“Ending the season with a win is amazing,” Jake Gagne said. “Dane and Garrett and those guys were really haulin’, and I could see on my pitboard that I needed to turn it up a little bit. So that’s what I did, and I was able to build up a little bit of lead. I’m glad it worked out for me and my team, not only today, but all season long.”
“It’s good to be on the podium,” commented Garrett. “That was a fun race, to be in that group with Dane. I was glad to get at the front of those guys and finish second. The year didn’t go quite the way I’d hoped, but I have to thank my Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team for giving me an awesome R6 all season long.”
Dane said, “It was a really fun race riding around with these guys. What a scrap at the end there, too. I feel good about the season we had, and finishing third in the points with all these great riders in the class is a big accomplishment for our team.”

GEICO Honda riders record top 10s at season-ending Devil’s Showdown
MILLVILLE, N.J. (Sept. 14) — It was a consistent day at New Jersey Motorsports Park with the GEICO Honda team recording another two top-10 finishes. Rider Jake Zemke finished seventh in the GoPro Daytona SportBike race, and Chris Ulrich scored his second ninth-place finish of the weekend in the American SuperBike race.
Ulrich felt the team made significant improvement throughout the weekend.
“Considering how everything started this weekend with qualifying, only being 14th on the grid, to fight for a top-six and then come home ninth, you know it’s OK,” Ulrich said. “It was a big improvement by the guys, even from this morning in warm-up, which was a disaster. We all kind of put our heads together and came up with a setting that I could ride and that I could get to the apex and drive the bike out and get it to steer.”
“Overall, I’m proud of how I rode today and proud of my team and especially really happy for Jake yesterday,” Ulrich said. “It’s been a long year, so now a lot of hard work for the guys. Now we’ll go back and those guys will get a little bit of time off and regroup for next year and see what happens.”
Zemke started his day off in eighth but was able to improve a spot in a race that gave him no real trouble.
“The beginning of the race was OK,” Zemke said. “We just kind of settled in. We were slowly just losing the lead group. It was just a few tenths a lap and a few tenths a lap. JD Beach was in front of me and he was just slowly falling off the lead group a couple tenths as well. We just kind of started falling back a little bit and then Danny Eslick kind of caught up from behind and passed me.
“There weren’t any big dramas or any big moments during the race. We just didn’t have quite enough to get Danny at the line and we came up a little bit short.”
Zemke also improved his points position for the season.
“All in all I’m just happy for the team,” Zemke said. “After we had the DNF at Ohio when we fell down after somebody lost a water hose and broke the frame so we couldn’t finish that race, we dropped from seventh in the points down to 10th. After having a good weekend with a podium yesterday and then seventh today, we’ve gotten back to seventh in the points. We got those positions that we lost the last race.”
The Devil’s Showdown at New Jersey Motorsports Park was the last event on the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing calendar.
