AMA Pro Daytona SportBike racer Austin DeHaven rode a Supermoto bike August 23 at Adams Motorsports Park, in Riverside, California, marking the first time the former AMA Pro SuperSport National Champion has ridden since he broke his left foot while training on a motocross bike July 17. DeHaven’s displaced bone fractured was set by orthopedic surgeon and track day enthusiast Dr. Thomas Bryan using two titanium surgical screws. “We have to thank Dr. Bryan for his amazing work and attention to Austin, and Eileen Olson, Austin’s trainer, for her amazing rehab help,” DeHaven’s father Eric DeHaven wrote in an e-mail to Roadracingworld.com. “All of their hard work has allowed Austin to be back on a bike after only four weeks of recovery. Riding [Thursday] went very well, and he was able to run the entire day out at Adams, getting through about six sessions with very little pain. “A few more days of Supermoto and an upcoming test with his Kneedraggers.com Triple Crown Industries team next week and we will know if he can make the race in New Jersey or if we will wait for Miami for his return.”
