Yamaha Star Garrett Gerloff to Visit Yamaha Champions Riding School 17-year-old phenom prepares for return to racing TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (August 7, 2012) “” Garrett Gerloff, a rising star in American motorcycle road racing, will join the Yamaha Champions Riding School at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on August 13-14, 2012. Gerloff, who rides the No. 8 Yamaha YZF-R6 for the Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha team in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike championship, has been out of action since March, when he crashed during practice for the season-opening Daytona 200 at Daytona International Speedway. After fourth months of rest and rehabilitation, the 17-year-old Texan will ride his Graves R6 at the Yamaha Champions Riding School to shake off the rust and prepare to resume his climb up the ladder of racing success. The Yamaha Champions Riding School operates with a single goal: to give its students what they need to drastically improve their riding. The bonus for the YCRS students attending the August 13-14 school is that they will be not only to get a chance to talk with Gerloff about his riding, but also watch and learn as he gets back up to speed on his Yamaha R6. Gerloff’s visit to the Yamaha Champions Riding School continues a tradition launched four years ago: many stars of the sport have shared their secrets of success with the school’s students. Riders such as Ben Spies, James Toseland, Josh Hayes, Josh Herrin and others have added their wisdom to help the school achieve its simple goal. “The things Garrett does with his eyes, brakes, body and throttle to get his bike around the racetrack quickly and repeatedly are what our students need to see, whether they are just getting into motorcycling as street riders or immersed in track days,” Chief Instructor Nick Ienatsch said. “The lessons we learn watching a rider like Garrett are the exact techniques all motorcycle riders need to survive on the street and thrive on the track. Don’t sweat the bike or location: this sport is about control.” “People get confused,” added Lead Instructor Ken Hill. “They confuse speed and safety. We’ll watch Garrett go amazingly fast, but with amazing control. Problems in this sport are almost always related to a poor use of the controls, especially the brakes. Watching and talking with Garrett will bring home one of the school’s main mantras: More speed, more brakes.” For information about Miller Motorsports Park or the Yamaha Champions Riding School, call 435-27-SPEED (435-277-7333) or visit the track’s website at www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com.
