AMA PRO STARS TALK BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK Birmingham, AL (June 14) The Triumph Superbike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union at Barber Motorsport Park is the next date on the AMA Pro Road Racing schedule and is approaching quickly. The event, June 22-24, promises to be an exciting round of America’s top professional motorcycle road racing series featuring seven races to entertain the fans at the scenic track. It’s the tenth year of the Barber Motorsports Park round of the AMA Pro Road Racing series and the race has become as popular with the riders as it has with the fans. There have been plenty of memorable contests at the circuit and the strong history of the event means it is an integral part of the series’ history. Here are some of the AMA Pro stars’ comments on the upcoming race: Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Young has two previous AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike victories at Barber Motorsports Park. The Wisconsin native is looking to add more after seven total wins in 2011 and three wins so far in 2012. “I think it’s awesome,” said Young. “I love going there. The race surface is fantastic. I love the elevations and the multiple variations of turns. It’s always got a good crowd and I know Mr. Barber is a motorcycle enthusiast and loves having us out there and makes us feel at home, as do the fans. I have also gotten to know some of the staff and they are always trying to put on the best event possible. It’s always a good show. It’s always one I look forward to racing, just as much as racing at home.” Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes has six National Guard SuperBike wins in 2012. “I won my first AMA Pro National Championship in Superstock the first time we raced at Barber Motorsports Park in 2003,”said Hayes, the two-time AMA Pro Superbike champion from Gulfport, Mississippi. “Atlanta had been the closest national-caliber track to home up until that time. I always have a ton of family and friends there at Barber Motorsports Park, so it’s always a great event for me. I’m sure it will be a great event for the fans, too.” Alabama resident Jason DiSalvo has run up front in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike this season and will give the fans a strong local rooting interest. The Team Latus Motors Racing Triumph pilot won at Infineon Raceway earlier this year and put in a memorable charge at the Daytona 200. “I’m really excited about going to Barber Motorsports Park. Number one, it’s my home track. Number two, the fact that they have the greatest motorcycle museum is one thing, but the whole facility — the track, the grounds — is like a museum itself. It’s one of those cool things. You roll through the gates at Barber Motorsports Park and you know you are at a cathedral of speed.” Martin Cardenas has more AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike wins than any other rider and currently leads to 2012 DSB championship. The Colombian won the 2010 championship at Barber Motorsports Park when he swept the doubleheader and was victorious in one of the SuperBike races last year. “For me, it has been a good track since I went there for the first time,” said Cardenas. “The track is very technical. It has some corners that are blind and very long, so the rider is challenged to do his best. It is very beautiful and the scenery is awesome. It is appropriate for very tight racing and I am looking forward to the race.” In addition to the races, the Barber Motorsports Park race offers fans a unique opportunity the Friday Track Walk when fans can tour the 17-turn course on foot with stars like Hayes and DiSalvo at the end of the day and get insights on what it takes to go fast at Barber Motorsports Park. Scheduled to attend are DiSalvo, Hayes, his Monster Energy Graves Yamaha teammate Josh Herrin, and National Guard Suzuki’s Roger Hayden. AMA Pro standouts Jake Lewis, Cory West and Kyle Wyman also have agreed to participate, as has DiSalvo’s teammate Dustin Dominguez. It’s a free event for Friday ticket holders. The Motorcycle Super Saver package is available until June 21st with access to three motorcycle events at Barber Motorsports Park in 2012, along with complimentary motorcycle parade laps during the Triumph Superbike Classic. While at Barber Motorsports Park, fans are encouraged to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a 144,000 square foot home to the largest private collection of motorcycles, representing 20 countries and over 200 manufacturers.
