More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO:

GEICO team will have four chances to win Vance & Hines XR1200 Series event

SALT LAKE CITY (May 29) — GEICO Harley riders Chris Filmore, Michael Corbino, and Kyle Wyman fought through cold and wet conditions Sunday at Miller Motorsports Park to successfully qualify for Monday’s AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series event at the Big M Weekend.

Daytona Sportbike rider Danny Eslick also is competing in the XR1200 class but the reigning class champion decided to skip Sunday’s final round of qualifying. He’ll start the race in seventh place based on the time he posted Saturday.

Filmore ended up being the quickest of the GEICO gang and sits second heading into Monday’s race. The 24-year-old rider carded his quickest times on Saturday before the wet weather came in strong.

“We were quickest in practice so we got off to a great start,” Filmore said. “Then qualifying got a little tricky because it started to rain. Still, we still ended up second, so I’m happy with that result.”

The rain that started Saturday night only worsened for Sunday’s qualifying round.

“We figured we wouldn’t see any improvement today so it turned into more of a test for the wet conditions,” Filmore said. “We made some progress and we still have one more warm up tomorrow so hopefully we can nail down what we want to do with the rainy conditions and I can feel comfortable on the bike. We really want to get on the podium.”

Corbino ran quick enough to earn the No. 10 spot on Monday’s grid. Like everyone else, he wasn’t able to improve on his position during Sunday’s action but that hasn’t shaken his confidence heading into raceday.

“I feel good about my rides,” Corbino said. “The bike was a little squirrely underneath me today but it’s just a matter of getting used to the rain tires.”

Most riders in the series haven’t dealt with much rain during their careers but Corbino is different.

“I’ve raced in the rain before so it could very well work to my favor,” Corbino said. “I want to make a big move in the first lap. The plan is to make some changes before the warm up session and go out there and see if I can feel more comfortable.”

Wyman sits 11th heading into Monday’s race and knows he has a lot of making up to do if he wants to finish up front.

“This is the first time I’ve ridden the Harley when it’s wet so I’m glad we have a warm up before the actual race so I can get some more practice,” Wyman said. “It takes time to get used to it, plus today was so cold. It’s definitely something different.”

Wyman was involved in a wreck during Saturday’s qualifier, although he walked away unscathed.

“I’m all good and comfortable,” Wyman said. “The bike is back to normal and I didn’t hurt myself so I’m ready. I’ve got my work cut out for me but I’m ready to race.”

The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 race is set for 1:20 p.m. MDT at Miller Motorsports Park.
