4FR Toyota Trucks/GreenerAcres.org visits elementary school for helmet safety and environmental issues. On may 21st the students at Culver Elementary School in Culver, Indiana had a special guest. Scotty Van Hawk from Four Feathers Racing visited their school to educate them on the importance of helmet use for their summer activities and how they could help save the environment. The students viewed all of the safety gear that is worn by professional motorcycle racers and made the direct connection to the helmets and knee and elbow pads that they use for biking and skating. The important message of helmet use was delivered in a way that kids could understand. “We have always tried to make helmets cool for the kids offering stickers and customizing as a way to get them to wear them, helmet use is much more common now than it was when I gave my first helmet safety program over ten years ago” said Scotty. Students attending the program were instructed to contact their teachers if they need a helmet and one would be provided for them through a team effort. New for this year was the addition of an environmentally friendly message. Students that had recently studied “Green” issues had many great ideas on how to help the environment. The team and the students compared notes on how each of us can do our part to help. Some of the topics were, energy conservation, bio-fuels, wind and solar power, and recycling. Electric and Hybrid vehicles were a hot topic as students were already well informed on the subject. “It is refreshing to know that there is a curious group of minds coming in the next generation that can help to shape a better world,” said Mr. Van Hawk. Four Feathers Racing would like to thank the teachers of Culver Elementary for the invitation and their hospitality while commending them on a job well done.
