Corner marshal seminar offered at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) will offer a free corner marshal seminar on Friday, July 9, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The corner marshal seminar will take place on the first day of the July 9-11 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, the country’s largest celebration of motorcycling heritage. Some seminar participants will have an immediate opportunity to apply their newly learned skills in the event’s vintage racing program. An exclusive benefit for AMA members, the seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including lunch. Those completing the seminar will receive an AMA handbook, an official AMA corner marshal t-shirt and cap, and a certificate of completion. Although seminar entry is free, pre-registration and valid entry to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days are required for all attendees. Seminar attendees can pre-register at the following link: ~http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e2tnifmjf212ec6f~. More seminar details, including the specific location on the Mid-Ohio grounds, will be communicated to pre-registrants at a later date. “Safety is a priority at any competitive motorcycle meet, and well-trained corner marshals are a necessity for a safe racing environment,” said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. “While the duties of corner marshals may seem simple to non-racers, the roles these officials play are some of the most critical on race day. Unfortunately, in some cases the common-sense approach or natural reflex reaction might not be the safest response. Education and training are vital to getting this right.” Seminar participants will learn important details that can affect racer safety. These include where to stand, how to use various flags, how to interact with medical personnel, what to do during a crash, when to help during a crash and how a crash involving two or more competitors may require a different response. All major motorcycle-racing disciplines will be covered. Keith Landis, from Kutztown, Pa., will lead the seminar. Landis is a professionally trained corner marshal and has worked numerous events on the pro level, including AMA Pro Racing Superbike events at Daytona International Speedway, Virginia International Raceway and Mid-Ohio. “We’ll teach the basics and provide a foundation that will allow attendees to work effectively at any track in the country,” Landis said. “Corner marshalling isn’t just waving a yellow flag when someone falls down. There are numerous details to learn, as well as the mental fortitude necessary to stay alert for eight hours.” About the American Motorcyclist Association Since 1924, the AMA has protected the future of motorcycling and promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life, and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world’s largest motorcycling rights organization, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists’ interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations, and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition and motorcycle recreational events than any other organization in the world. AMA members receive money-saving discounts from dozens of well-known suppliers of motorcycle services, gear and apparel, bike rental, transport, hotel stays and more. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the heritage of motorcycling for future generations.
