Several AMA teams held their first test on the 4.5-mile course at Miller Motorsports Park Wednesday, in preparation for the combined AMA Superbike/FIM Superbike World Championship event scheduled to be held at the Tooele, Utah facility May 29 June 1. Teams attending the test included: LeoVince Foremost Insurance Ducati, American Honda, Erion Honda, Corona Extra Honda, Monster Energy Kawasaki, Attack Kawasaki, Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki, Jordan Suzuki, Yamaha and Graves Motorsports Yamaha. “It’s very good,” Mat Mladin told Roadracingworld.com, when asked about the 4.5-mile course. “I, personally, think the infield part of the course is the best part of the race course. Don’t get me wrong. Miller Motorsports Park is definitely a great facility all-around, but the infield part is definitely a lot of fun.” “It’s definitely a cool layout,” Mladin’s teammate Ben Spies said. “It’s a bit ridiculous on how long the lap time is, but it’s OK.” Mladin said he and Spies both did lap times in the 2:48 range. The day started out dry, but some mid-day rain showers temporarily halted on-track activities. Things then dried out in time for riders to resume learning the new course Wednesday afternoon. Mladin said he got in a total of 25 laps, almost double the scheduled AMA Superbike race distance of 14 laps, while teammate Ben Spies reported he did 16 laps around the new course. Testing will continue Thursday, when the weather is expected to be better.
