A 10-year-old American from Belmont, California won a CIV Junior race in Pomposa, Italy on Sunday.

Max Toth won in Pre MiniGP, a spec class that puts riders on identical 50cc Metrakit two-stroke racebikes that are re-assigned to riders before each race. Gearing and suspension settings are the same on all the bikes, and adjustments are not allowed.

Toth was quickest in the first qualifying session of the weekend and second-quickest in the final qualifying session. According to his father Bert Toth, Max Toth finished fourth in Saturday’s race after encountering a clutch problem at the start, but was quickest in the Sunday warm-up session.

In Sunday’s race Toth took the lead in the second corner, turned his fastest lap on lap eight of 10 and won by 3.217 seconds.

Max Toth and his father have been commuting to Italy for the CIV races.

According to Bert Toth, Max is the first American to win a race in the CIV series.
