American Kenny Noyes On Pole For Spanish FX Series Finale With New Record Lap

Noyes on Pole for Final Race of Spanish 1000cc Extreme in Valencia Kenny Noyes broke the 1000cc Extreme qualifying record that he set in 2008 to take the pole for the final round of the Spanish Championship at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit of Valencia. The American took his Palmeto Kawasaki ZX 10R around the 2.5 mile G.P. circuit in 1:34.656 to establish a new record for the premier class of the series. Reigning Spanish Extreme Champion Carmelo Morales (Laglisse Yamaha) was the only other rider into the 34s as he clocked a 1:34.899. Completing the front row alongside Noyes and Morales will be Ivan Silva (Inmotec Kawasaki) and Bernat Martinez (T.B. Yamaha). Noyes and Morales are the only two riders to have started on the front row at all rounds of the championship. Kenny´s qualifying time, set on a Michelin qualifier, would have placed him a very creditable fifth in this year’s World Superbike Superpole qualifying held at Valencia in the April (with warmer track conditions) and his time on the mildly prepared (under Spanish regulations) Kawasaki bettered the best World SBK factory Kawasaki qualifying time by 0.4 of a second. Tomorrow’s race will be Kenny’s last 1000cc Extreme ride before turning all his attention to preseason testing for the inaugural Moto2 World Championship season. Extreme Front Row: 1. We’ve been front row all year but the pole just kept getting away, sometimes just by thousandths. I thought I had better speed on my second qualifier but I got in too hot at the Doohan Hairpin and lost a bunch of time. “The important thing is that we have a real good pace on the race tire. It is chilly here and a little harder to run 35s than when we last tested, but we can hold a strong pace. That tire problem that we had last week in Jerez is solved and we’ve chosen a compound that will run over 20 laps at the pace I need to run. Since the race is 19 laps, we’re pretty happy about that. I want to thank the team for working hard and giving me everything I’ve needed in what has been a hard year on a slim budget. The bike is working really well and it was fast enough today to let me draft pass Morales on the Yamaha, which is never easy. In fact the bike is so fast today that I got nabbed for speeding in the pits!”
