Opening round of Spanish 1000cc Formula Extrema Championship Valencia, Spain April 19, 2008 Kenny Noyes (Motorrad Suzuki) Takes the Pole in Valencia Spanish-born American Kenny Noyes (Motorrad Suzuki) became the first rider ever to lap under 1´35 at Valencia in the Formula Extreme class, Spain’s premier roadracing series. Noyes’ time of 1´34.805 gave him a .7 of a second advantage over former Spanish Formula Extreme and 250 Champion José Luis Cardoso (Blusens BQR Suzuki), and was .431 under the class record set last year by four times FX Champion, David de Gea, now riding in World Supersport, in 2007. Alongside Noyes and Cardoso on the all-Dunlop front row for the opening round of the Spanish Championship are Xavier Fores (D´Antin Kawasaki) and Bernat Martínez (T.B. Yamaha). Noyes’s Motorrad Suzuki team mate, Sergio Fuertes, riding in pain from a broken metacarpal in his foot after crash in the World Superbike race two weeks ago, qualified eleventh. “I was really surprised by the time,” said Noyes. “I was on a two lap Dunlop qualifier and was a little conservative on the first lap through the first two corners. I felt I could go faster, but I ran onto a group of slower riders and had to scrap second lap. I didn’t get all there was out of the Q tire in the morning and then the track was a little to damp in the afternoon so I didn’t put another qualifier on. On race tires we are good. I can run steady 36´s. The Dunlops are working well here but the Michelin guys, Javier del Amor and Carmelo Morales, are fifth and ninth but you can never count those guys out.” The forecast is for rain. “For sure we’d rather race in the dry because we have a good set-up, but we’ll be OK in the wet too,” said Noyes who only opened his season by winning the opening round of the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup at Valencia from the pole during the Spanish Round of World Superbike.
