When he returned to the pits where the team was unable to make repairs. That left the two Catalá Suzukis in the lead with the number 2 machine leading the number 3 bike by nine laps and with the third place Probarna Honda trailing the second place team by another four laps. With no eminent threat on the horizon the Catalá Suzuki team went into a conservative “holding pattern” with riders on both bikes slowing to run in the 1´53 to 1´55 range. The lead Catala Suzuki had been lapping between 1´50 and 1´52 during stints up to the crash of the Folch Yamaha.
