While all eyes will be on the 3rd round of the MotoGP championship in Texas this weekend, 9 year old American racer Kristian Daniel Jr (KDJR) will be in Spain, facing off against 37 fast kids in the first round of the RFME Minivelocidad MiniGP110 series.

After a successful debut in Copa Catalana promovelocitat series (a smaller regional championship) earlier this year which saw KDJR secure a 3rd place, his team and family decided to step up to the National Championship of Mini GranPrix racing in Spain.

Along with a much larger grid, which gets spit into an A group and B group based on qualifying lap times, the series has a much higher competition level compared to anything that KDJR has faced in the past.

This will be the first of a 4 round round series, hosted at Circuit Kotarr in Burgos, Spain. Similar to the MotoAmerica series, each race weekend has 2 races and points are awarded to the first 16 riders.

This higher level of competition also comes with some very strict rules to ensure a level playing field. The machines must be 110cc 4 stroke MiniGP bikes built by a select few manufactures. The bikes have a horse power limit and will be put on a dyno after every qualifying and race. There is also a minimum rider/ bike weight that must be met and the race organizers weigh the bikes and riders after every session. Even the tires used must be Dunlop TT93s allocated by the race federation.

While KDJR is used to ending up on the podium, he and the team have realigned their goals for this first round and are hoping to finish both races in the top 10.

KDJR says “I have the nervous/ excited butterflies and I think that the first turn is going to be crazy.”
