Z2 Racing’s Cameron Gish sets 600cc Lap Record at Thunderhill Raceway.

In a very exciting race, Cameron Gish set the Thunderhill Raceway 600cc lap record at the final AFM event of 2011 this past weekend. Cameron’s lap time of 1:49.630 was .002 seconds faster than the previous lap record held by AMA pro Jimmy Wood and it came despite cool conditions during the 600 Superbike race on Sunday. “I’m happy I was able to set the new 600cc track record. It really says a lot for the Pirelli tires that I was using. The conditions were less then perfect but with help from Chris Maguire and Corey Neuer I was able to choose the right tires that worked flawlessly the whole race. The new Diablo Supercorsa 180/60 SC1 rear and the 120/70 SC2 front was the winning combination this weekend and I can’t thank the whole CTRacing crew enough for their support.”

Cameron’s lap record was a fitting end to an excellent season. Cameron not only joined the Z2 Race team after the start of the season, but he was new to the 600 class as well. Through hard work and determination he finished the season with the following results:

600 Production – 2nd Overall 600 Superbike – 4th Overall AFM #10 Plate for 2012

From starting at the back of the grids early in the season to winning three races at the final round, Cameron’s results have been impressive. After the 600 Superbike race, Cameron had this to say, “We had a fresh set of Pirelli’s mounted so I was ready to go. I knew – and I know Lenny Hale and Joey Pascarella knew – it would be a good race at the front. I started on the 2nd row back in 5th position and was able to go deep into the first turn to get up into 2nd. I was struggling in a few places but I was working hard to get on the back of Lenny where I knew I was strong. Trying to ride with Lenny has been motivating me to go faster all year and it’s been working well. We exchanged positions a few times on the 2nd lap before I was able to make the pass stick and put my head down.”

Later in the day, he rounded out the season with a win in 600 Production. “I achieved all the goals I set out for this season, and then some, and I can’t wait to keep improving next year. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help I received this season from my entire extended team.” For Cameron’s full race report, click here: ~http://zoomzoomtrackdays.com/ti/zoomzoom/showcontent.html?content=cameron_10022011~

Z2 Track Days and CTRacing/Pirelli would like to congratulate Cameron on his success in 2011 and we’re all looking forward to a great 2012.

More, from an AFM Official, via e-mail:

I can confirm the validity of Cameron’s lap time at the last Thunderhill round of the AFM. As far as our research shows, his lap is the fastest of any recorded 600 class lap time in the AFM.
