Round Two 2008 Parts Canada Superbike Championship After dominating the first round of the 2008 series with a 1-2 finish in 600 Supersport and a decisive win in Superbike, Canadian Kawasaki confidently heads west for the second round at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park. The tight and bumpy layout of the 3.2 KM track boasts the longest straight-away the riders face all year, challenging teams to find the best set-up for the tighter infield while ensuring high speed stability as riders approach 275 kph. The current Parts Canada Superbike and Yoshimura Sport bike series champion Jordan Szoke, is positive heading into the weekend; aggressive in his plans to extend his series lead in both Championships. “All I need to do is watch out for the pavement changes and get a good start,” says Szoke. His biggest concern in Superbike is really Kevin Lacombe, currently second in the series, but he feels the improvements Kawasaki made to the ZX-10R from last year’s winning bike will give him the advantage. Jordan added, “Even though some of the fast guys fell at Calabogie, they are still a concern and a threat for the race win. They might be behind in the championship, but I’m still focusing in on winning the championship by winning races.” Szoke set the lap record last year in Calgary on his ZX-10R and his crew is ready to make another entry in the record books in 2008 for Kawasaki. In Yoshimura PRO 600 Sport Bike it will be much of the same game plan for Szoke as he looks to back up his win from round one. After being taken out of a possible podium position in the closing stages of the superbike race at round one, 16 year old rookie sensation Brett McCormick is determined to make up for lost ground and push for maximum points. During the 2007 round at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park, McCormick finished just off the Superbike podium in fourth and secured his first pro podium in the 600 super bike class. The young Saskatoon native will be looking to finish on the box again this year in front of his home crowd. Overall points after round one in the Parts Canada Superbike has Szoke on top with 50 points, 8 ahead of Kevin Lacombe in second place. Due to his fall in round one, McCormick sits in 21st place with a single point earned in qualifying. In the Yoshimura PRO 600 Sport Bike series, Szoke also sits on top with 50 points, and Brett in second with 42, 5 points ahead of third place.
