SEVEN CLASS LAP RECORDS BROKEN AT CHUCKWALLA AT PENULTIMATE RACE MEET OF THE SEASON

Andrew Lee clinches CVMA #1 plate, Randy Smith secures Supersport Middleweight class championship

This past weekend Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Associate flagged off the second-to-last event of it’s 2017/2018 Winter Series at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, CA, and it ended up being one of the most eventful race meets in the club’s history.

In total an astonishing seven class lap records were broken, including some that have stood since 2012. New benchmarks were set in 350 Supersport (Kevin Olmedo; 1:57.954), Formula 40 Lightweight (Quinn Swift; 1:53.012), Formula 40 Middleweight (Dan Sharp; 1:52.930), Shootout Lightweight (Quinn Swift; 1:53.547), Middleweight Supersport (Michael Gilbert; 1:46.583), Open Supersport (Kyle Wyman, 1:46.524), and Ultralightweight Shootout (Torin Collins; 1:56.635).

The incredible speeds had many scratching their heads and wondering if the Easter weekend had given the racers supernatural powers, but the truth is CVMA has simply succeeded in attracting top-tier riders from across the country and beyond. This round included competitors and former champions from as far away as Canada and El Salvador, as well as MotoAmerica pros looking to dial in their bikes and their skills before the official start of the season later this month at Road Atlanta.

While the MotoAmerica calendar is about to kick off, CVMA’s 2017/2018 Winter Series is beginning to wind down. With just one final race weekend to go, Andrew Lee has already secured the club’s coveted #1 plate with consistent top finishes in The Shootout. Lee will be gridded up on his Kawasaki ZX-10R at Road Atlanta for the opening MotoAmerica round, and we wish him the best of luck.

Another rider that can breathe easy rolling into CVMA’s final round of racing is Randy Smith, who, despite finishing behind Michael Gilbert in Saturday and Sundays Supersport Middleweight classes, has accumulated enough points to secure the class championship.

Far and away the most exciting race of the weekend was Sunday’s 10-lap CVMA Shootout race presented by TrackDaz and SoCal TrackDays, which saw a David-and-Goliath battle between Andrew Lee and Travis Wyman on 1000s (Kawasaki ZX-10R and BMW S1000RR, respectively) and Michael Gilbert on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Gilbert used his incredible skill and track knowledge to keep his less powerful motorcycle glued to the tail sections of the big bikes, and several times made impressive passes that could only be accomplished on a 600. In the end Gilbert came in second, on a fraction of a second behind Wyman on his BMW. Lee crossed the line in third.

The final round of racing takes place at Chuckwalla on April 21/22, 2018. CVMA offers two full days of racing every race weekend and also includes Saturday qualifying for grid position in all classes, amateur and expert, as well as a wide variety of classes to choose from.

Additionally, CVMA offers free reciprocity as a means of encouraging racers from other clubs to come out and compete. Log on to www.cvmaracing.com for more information.

Firing on all cylinders: Travis Wyman takes three wins at CVMA Winter Series event

Weir Everywhere Racing rider shows team is ready to contend for MotoAmerica’s Stock 1000 title

DESERT CENTER, Calif. — Travis Wyman and the Weir Everywhere Racing team showed impressive pace, preparedness, and focus in their last racing event before the MotoAmerica season gets underway. The team contested their second Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association Winter Series event of the year March 31 through April 1. The team showed up to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway for a final tune-up before the pro season gets underway and ended up putting on their strongest on-track showing yet. The team/rider combination qualified first and racked up three wins in five races while finishing every race on the podium.

It was the first time this year that the entire Weir Everywhere Racing team was able to work together during a racing weekend, and the team’s on-track performance showed just how potent the combination of talent and experience is. Moreover, all the team’s wins were by margins of less than four-tenths of a second and were the result of close battles and last lap passes.

The team is looking forward to carrying the proven pace and mental toughness they showed at the CVMA event into the opening round of the MotoAmerica series April 13-15 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.

Potential sponsors interested in marketing partnership opportunities with Weir Everywhere Racing should contact Travis Wyman at [email protected].

Travis Wyman, rider for Weir Everywhere Racing, said: “This was a great weekend for us. It was our first weekend racing with the entire team, and we were fast right out of the gate. We were able to take the pole in qualifying, which really helped our weekend. In Saturday’s Supersport Open race we tried a different set-up that did not work the way we planned and had to settle for third-place. We got the bike back into the paddock and went back to our original settings. After that, we took three hard fought wins in a row, including the CVMA Shootout race. I was feeling really confident in the BMW S1000RR package we have and was able to make aggressive moves late in races to lock up our wins. We rounded out the weekend with a second-place in the Supersport Open-class Sunday race. I really want to thank my team for their efforts this weekend. We learned a lot, and I feel really confident heading into the MotoAmerica season opener. I know we are going to be facing some tough competition in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 class, but I really feel like we are going to be serious contenders this season.”

Steve Weir, crew chief for Weir Everywhere Racing, said: “This is the best weekend we have had so far. The perfect storm I talked about earlier this year just continues to rage on. This was the first race weekend with everyone on the team present, and it was great having Alex Torres of Fast Line Motorcycle Performance on hand. We had a chance to look at some of our competition this weekend, and really believe we will be contenders in MotoAmerica’s Stock 1000 class. We have a really good handle on this BMW S1000RR package and are looking forward to the start of the MotoAmerica season later this month.”
