SZOKE TAKES THIRD STRAIGHT CALGARY, Alta. Defending series champion Jordan Szoke scored his third straight Parts Canada Superbike Championship win at Race City Motorsport Park Sunday after local favorite Clint McBain crashed out of the lead a few corners from the finish. The Cochrane, Alta. rider, riding the Suzuki Acceleration Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 was just ahead of Szoke’s Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R when they came upon a slower rider on the final lap. McBain tried to move under the bike but fell, leaving Szoke free to collect the win. “I almost had Clint on the last lap,” said Szoke, who edged McBain for the victory in Saturday’s opening end of the weekend doubleheader. “It looked like he got aggressive with a lapper and I guess he hit a bump. It’s really easy to do.” McBain still managed to rejoin the race and salvage a sixth place finish. Szoke’s win was his 23rd career Canadian national Superbike triumph, tying him with Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Steve Crevier for the most all-time class victories. “This is like a dream come true,” said the 28-year-old from Brantford, Ont. “As a kid you dream of winning races. I’m fortunate, and this just makes me so proud.” Szoke also extended his lead in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship point standings after three of seven events. He now has 156 points to the 105 of Granby, Que.’s Kevin Lacombe, who finished second Sunday on his Team Toyota Yamaha / Brooklin Cycle Yamaha YZF-R1. McBain is third with 104 points heading into the next round, another doubleheader at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont. July 13- 15. As in Saturday’s race McBain grabbed the lead on the opening lap but this time he was unable to break away from the pack. He lost the lead to the Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Performance Suzuki GSX-R1000 of Francis Martin on lap 3 of the 22-lap race but took back the top spot on lap 10. “Unlike yesterday I didn’t make any mistakes today,” McBain said. “I rode as hard as I could. We made some changes to the bike and I knew we had a good race pace. McBain thought he hit a kerb as he tried to lap the slower rider. “I had nowhere to go,” he said. “He was way on the inside. I couldn’t go to the outside and leave the inside open.” Martin completed the podium. Fifteen-year-old Brett McCormick of Saskatoon was fourth on his Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R after a racelong duel with the Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company Yamaha YZF-R1 of Crevier. Crevier won in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike feature on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Saturday’s winner Szoke placed second on his Kawasaki ZX-6RR and Martin was third on a Suzuki GSX-R600. Andrew Nelson crossed the line second but was penalized for exceeding the class horsepower limit. Israel Johnas of Oak Lake, Man. again won the International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Amateur 600 Sport Bike on his Kawasaki ZX-6RR. Calgary’s Matt Schmidt was second on a Suzuki GSX-R600 after a battle with the Honda CBR600RR of Marie-Josee Boucher of Quebec City. Calgary’s Chad Pasowisty won the Thunder race for the second day in a row on his Ducati PS1000LE and Martin Grande of Montreal won the Suzuki SV650 National Cup event.
