The restarted AMA Superbike race at Mid-Ohio was red-flagged again after an additional three laps, when Matt Lynn crashed and his tumbling Honda CBR1000RR ignited. Miguel Duhamel crashed immediately after Lynn, and this time race control quickly called for a red flag. Lynn waved for cornerworkers to bring a fire extinguisher but they refused to venture out into the impact zone until the race was red-flagged. Lynn then met a cornerworker walking out with a fire extinguisher, grabbed the extinguisher and ran to put his burning Corona Extra Honda out. When the red flag was thrown, Mat Mladin was leading Ben Spies and Jamie Hacking, who had been delayed by fast-starting Eric Bostrom; Bostrom was fourth as the red flag flew. The riders were working the 11th total lap, including all laps scored during the original start and restarts. Flying debris from Lynn’s crash hit Scott Jensen in the knee; Jensen said his left knee was swollen and “locked up” as a result.
