American Honda-sponsored Jeffrey Tigert took his time picking his way through the field, pushed his Dunlop-shod CBR1000RR to the front and cleared off to win the Toyota Gold Cup Unlimited Formula 1 race at the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club meet this weekend.

In chilly conditions, Tigert ran a race-best 1:21.999 on the second lap en route to a 5.571 second win over Lowry, the reigning Formula 1 Champion.

“I made my move when I should have, I never looked back, I ran my own race,” Tigert said.

Lowry, who led the opening laps, held second for much of the race, and was demoted to third briefly by Brant Wiwi on a Pirelli-shod, West Coast GP Cycles-tuned Yamaha YZF-R1.

“I got a couple of pretty good moments on top of the hill,” said Lowry, who took second for the second straight month on his Graves Motorsports-built, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R1. “I was looking down at the front tire coming over (Turn) Six. That’s not good.”

Wiwi pushed his way into second on the seventh lap, but couldn’t hold off Lowry and eventually finished 4.008 seconds behind Lowry.

“When I saw the door open, I had to take it,” Wiwi said. “That one pass made the whole race worthwhile.”

Tigert also took the wins in Open Modified Production and Open Superbike, while Lowry took his Yamaha YZF-R6 to wins in 650 Superbike and 600 Superstock.
