July 24, 2016

“Aussie Dave” Anthony put in a pair of professional, measured rides, punctuated by raw speed when he needed it, and took the Formula One and A Superstock wins as the WERA West Presented by Lucas Oil Products series returned to Auto Club Speedway in Southern Canifornia.

Anthony started the day taking his Dunlop-shod Kawasaki ZX-10R to the win in A Superstock over Corey Sarros’ Shades of Vail-backed, Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000. Anthony slotted into second behind Sarros, took the lead halfway through the race as Sarros suffered brake fade, then put in a best lap of 1:28.094 on the penultimate lap, nearly 1.2 seconds quicker than Sarros’ best time of the race.

Anthony had 5.788 seconds in hand at the end of the six-lap sprint, and 8.235 seconds over Derek Keyes, who finished third aboard his Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Anthony repeated the pattern later in the day during the Formula One race, this time waiting until late in the race to make his move to the front. Once there, Anthony dropped the hammer, pounding in a 1:27.992 lap to pull a 2.833 second gap at the line over Sarros. Wyman finished third, ahead of Robert Perez, Keyes and Christopher Carron, with Sahar Zvik, Armen Manougian, Scott Tillery and Brian Evans completing the top 10.

Danielle Diaz dominated the C Superbike and C Superstock races aboard her Kawasaki ZX-6R. In C Superstock, she crossed the line 6.432 seconds ahead of Michael Weir, who was more than 11 seconds clear of Ryan Harper. In C Superbike, Diaz crossed the line 4.111 seconds ahead of Weir but 26.974 seconds ahead of Jeremiah Walker, who finished third.
