ORLANDO AND ASHMEAD TO BATTLE FOR DAYTONA 200 CAREER MILEAGE RECORD
This year’s 70th running of the Daytona 200 will surely see a great race at the front for top honors in this historic event. There will be another interesting battle going on, likely farther back in the field, between Ricky Orlando and 1989 Daytona 200 winner John Ashmead. Both riders will start the race with the possibility of breaking Rick Shaw’s existing Daytona 200 career mileage record of 3,728 miles. Orlando will start the race with 3,719 miles (just 9 short of Shaw’s record) and Ashmead is 49 back at 3,679.
Ricky Orlando only needs to complete three laps to overcome Shaw. However, his new record could be short-lived if he does not finish the race. Orlando could end the day back in 2nd place if he were to drop out and finish with less miles than Ashmead, who would have 3,879 if he runs the full distance.
