Defending ASRA Sportbike and Superbike Champion Jeff Wood will race his Arclight Suzuki GSX-R600 in the Pro Honda Oils AMA Supersport races at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and at Road Atlanta. “I want to see if it opens any doors,” said Wood, when asked why he was racing the two AMA rounds. “And the Road Atlanta round will get me ready for the Suzuki Cup Finals in October.” Wood, who clinched the 2006 ASRA Superbike Championship (two rounds early) August 13 at Barber Motorsports Park, is no stranger to AMA racing. He finished seventh in the AMA Formula Xtreme race at Daytona International Speedway, and prior to that he finished on the AMA 250cc GP podium in three successive years at New Hampshire International Speedway, his home track. Wood’s team, Arclight Suzuki, also has AMA experience. It has fielded several riders in AMA competition over the last 10 years and nearly won the 2002 AMA Superstock Championship with rider Lee Acree, who won two races that season even though his focus was on the Formula USA Championship. Jeff Wood is the younger brother of Hooters Helpmeride.com Suzuki’s Eric Wood, an AMA race winner.
