American Sportbike Roadracing Association (ASRA) qualifying scheduled for Saturday morning at Daytona International Speedway has been canceled, and the ASRA Finals will be gridded based on Championship points. The cancellation was brought about by a time shortage. Delays caused by crashes in Saturday morning’s CCS races made that program run long, leaving not enough time to run the ASRA Sportbike, Superbike and Thunderbike qualifying sessions before the 1:00 p.m. start time of the MOTO-ST 8 Hours of Daytona endurance race. “We weren’t going to be able to give the riders enough laps to run a safe qualifying session,” said CCS/ASRA boss Kevin Elliott. “It’s the last race of the year, and you don’t want to see the #1 and #2 riders in the Championship crash because they don’t have enough laps to put in a flyer. We attempted to verify how much time we could get, because I know the minimum is 45 minutes for the lunch break. We couldn’t get any word in time, so I made the decision.”
