ASRA Team Challenge Carolina Motorsports Park Kershaw, South Carolina April 14-15, 2007 Event Preview Break-Time Over for Team Challenge After a six week rest, the ASRA Team Challenge will take a shot at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina this Sunday for round two of the eight race championship. ASRA Team Challenge consists of three main classes, GTO / GTU / GTL featuring nearly $20,000 in cash and prizes offered per event for class and overall finish for the Teams Carolina Motorsports Park, known as a very technical and physically demanding circuit, will compound the pressure on each team along with the entry list of formidable competitors. Add the forecast of near perfect mid 70’s for the race on Sunday at Noon, and you can see it’s going to be a great weekend for someone. Class Previews: For GTO, the unlimited displacement class, Daytona winners Vallely Racing 2 (Captained by Tom Vallely) will attempt to run the Moto-ST event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday, then jet their point-leading squad to Carolina to try to face down the charge of defending 2006 GTO Champion Moon’s Super Cycle (with Captain Calvin Martinez) who will concentrate on CMP for the ASRA event. Waiting in the wings will be the Moon’s Cycle Repsol Team captained by Rick Beggs and the Chucktown Moto squad of Kenny Rodriguez with Matt Huber, both teams looking to rebound from problems at the opening round. With 600cc machines as the most popular race bikes in the United States today, the GTU class is usually the largest and hardest fought of the weekend, and the 2007 class point leader, JHK Motorsports with Michael Murray and Jonathan Lawrence aboard, will have their hands full with the Defending National GTU Champions RNR Cycles (formerly Fast Lane GTU with Captain Rick Beggs) who currently lie third in the 2007 standings. In the lightweight GTL class, defending 2006 National Champions Mighty Lumina Racing are looking forward to the return to the podium after a tough loss in Daytona to the Rightsforbikers.com team. Helping them back into the 2007 championship hunt, the Rightsforbikers.com Team will be in Homestead for the Moto-ST event on Saturday, giving Mighty Lumina the chance it needs to pull even with the Daytona winner as long as they can finish well in Sunday’s event. The A&J Recognition Solo Challenge will feature the top five in 2007 points plus the 2006 Solo Runner up Al Harris in the “Battle for the Ironman Award”. This class is for single riders who wish to challenge themselves over the 250km distance. While they still need teammates for pit crew members, these racers do the rest on their own. Look for David McPherson, Krishna Pribadi and Ivan Milan to renew their Daytona podium duel while fighting off challenges from Gary Cain and Paul Capella who came up a little short last round. Gates open at 7:00am, racing starts at Noon both days.
