9th Annual Summit Point Cyclefest Michelin Pro Series Summit Point, WV May 29-31, 2010 For the 9th year in a row, the America Sportbike Racing Association and Harley Davidson of Frederick would like to invite everyone out to the Summit Point Cyclefest on May 29-31 at Summit Point Motorsports Park. This annual celebration of racing has become one of the high points of the Michelin Pro Series and features a tribute to the men and women who have served and are serving in our Armed Forces by the participants and fans at the event. So far the 2010 championship chase has a new look in all four of the Michelin Pro Series classes as Joel Spalding from Huntley IL. and Jordan Richardson from Fuquay Varian, NC. both have the lead in two classes going into Round 3 of the Series. The “veteran” Joel Spalding leads the ThunderBike Championship on his Ducati 749 by 23 points over fellow Mid-West rider Ray Hofman from Waupum WI on his Suzuki 650. This marks the first time a Ducati has led the series and Spalding looks to hold on by another strong result in West Virginia. The “rookie expert” Jordan Richardson, in just his second season of road racing, leads the SportBike class by a single point over Jason Farrell and looks to open the lead by more this weekend. Farrell, from Oshkosh WI., will miss the Memorial event because he has been selected to ride as a Wildcard at the WSB race in Utah this weekend, leaving Richardson to face the local talent with his Ray Price Triumph 675. Richardson has a little more breathing room in SuperBike, where he holds a 6 point cushion over Farrell and depending how he does this weekend, he could put himself solidly into the SuperBike Championship lead before the series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the 87th Annual Loudon Classic in June. Another new brand in the Michelin Pro Series is KTM and Joel Spalding has his RC8R atop the SuperStock standings by 14 points over Brian Hall and 15 points over Shane Narbonne. Spalding will try to keep the KTM out front of the potent 1000cc four cylinders on the 2 mile Summit Point Circuit. Spalding won’t be alone this round as Summit Point regular Bob Michael will debut his Bemotorsports.net KTM pitting at least two of the RC8R’s against the rest of the field. The 9th Annual Summit Point Cyclefest also features 23 Championship Cup Series sprints split between the Sunday and Monday schedules. On Sunday Qualifying starts at Noon followed by CCS sprints and on Monday racing action begins at 10:00am with CCS Sprints and the Michelin Pro Series finals starting at Noon. Gates open at 7:00pm on Friday and weekend gate passes are just $35. Passes for Sunday and Monday are just $25 and Monday the gate fee is just $15.
