Assanti Tops WERA West F1 At Buttonwillow

Assanti, Willis Win Big at Buttonwillow Alessandro Assanti and Garrett Willis took big wins at Buttonwillow Raceway Park this weekend in WERA West competition at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California. Riding a Suzuki GSX-R1000, Assanti won the Formula 1 Expert race by more than six seconds over Corey Sarros, with a best lap time of 1:52.950 over the three-mile Buttonwillow course. Assanti also took the A Superstock race over Sarros, but this was much closer the gap at the line was a mere 0.377 seconds. Sarros took the A Superbike Expert win, however, with nearly 12 seconds in hand over Eddie Barajas. Both were Suzuki GSX-R1000-mounted. Assanti took third. Riding his Honda CBR600RR, Garrett Willis ran the table in the races he entered, winning four of four on Saturday and Sunday. Willis won the Mediumweight Solo 20 Expert race a 20-lap, 60-mile contest by more than 28 seconds on Saturday afternoon, and backed that up by winning the C Superbike, C Superstock and B Superstock sprint races on Sunday. Former AMA Superbike Champion and 500cc GP podium finisher Doug Chandler wiped out the field in the Heavyweight Solo 20 Expert race on Saturday. Chandler won by nearly a full minute over second-place Sarros.
