Aussie Dave Racing’s David Anthony took his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to a dominating win in the headline Formula One race at the WERA West Presented By Lucas Oils race weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Anthony, an AMA Pro Racing regular, took his Pirelli-shod Suzuki into the lead from the start and never trailed across the start-finish line, taking the Formula One win by 10.566 seconds over AMA Daytona SportBike competitor Jason DiSalvo. West Coast fast guy Corey Sarros, aboard a Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000, took third, a fraction behind DiSalvo.

At the start, Anthony who took second in the Formula One race at the WERA West season-opening event at Auto Club Speedway at Fontana last month went into the lead, followed by Sarros, DiSalvo and former AMA Pro Superbike competitor Reno Karimian. DiSalvo, who started from ninth position aboard his Latus Motors Racing Triumph Daytona 675R, quickly sliced through the traffic to move up to third by the end of the first lap, and stayed there ahead of Karimian until the final lap, when he slipped past Sarros and pulled a 1.445-second gap over third on the final lap of the six-lap sprint.

It was an eventful last lap, as Jordan Burgess, who started back in 13th place, nicked Karimian on the final circuit for fourth. Mookie Wilkerson, who started seventh, finished sixth, although nearly 16 seconds behind Karimian. But no one had anything for Anthony on this day. On the last of the six circuits, Anthony turned a 1:15.354 lap around the 1.8-mile circuit, more than 1.5 seconds quicker than DiSalvo; no one else got under the 1:17 mark in the race.

Anthony actually had gone quicker during Saturday’s Heavyweight Solo 20 race, which he won over Burgess, Rick Johns and Karimian; during that event, Anthony turned a 1:15.265 lap. Anthony also won the A Superbike race over Sarros and Burgess.

In the middleweight classes, Benny Solis Jr. took his Dunlop-shod Suzuki GSX-R600 to a narrow 0.253 second win over DiSalvo on Saturday in the Mediumweight Solo 20 race. On Sunday, Solis took second in the C Superbike and C Superstock races behind Joey Pascarella’s Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 Pascarella turned a 1:15.938 in the C Superstock race, the fastest 600 lap of the weekend and the only lap under the 1:16 mark that didn’t belong to Anthony.

Solis beat DiSalvo and Bryce Prince in the B Superbike race and beat DiSalvo’s teammate Dustin Dominguez and Ben Truslow in the B Superstock event. AMA Pro Racing’s Vance & Hines XR1200 class contenders Michael Barnes and Josh Chisum showed up on Saturday for the Lightweight Solo 20 races aboard their Bartels’ Harley-Davidson XR1200s. Barnes finished third, behind Joe Roberts aboard a Honda RS125 and Dan Sewell aboard a Suzuki SV650; Chisum took sixth.
