Herfoss sends a message to the paddock on Friday
Yamaha Motor Insurance (YMI) Superbike class rider, Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing, CBR-1000SP) displayed scorching pace during three Friday Practice sessions for the Spokes.com.au presents Round 3 at Winton Motor Raceway. The Honda mounted rider took charge and put forward his case for a strong weekend ahead as part of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK)
In first place, topping the timesheets was the sensational 2016 champion, Herfoss. The Crankt Protein Honda Racing rider displayed his prowess for Winton Motor Raceway during today’s practice session by topping the class with an overall time of 1:20.531 in the Second Practice. Although Herfoss was not able to match his lap time in the final practice for the day, he is yet to unleash his full potential.
Herfoss explained how he managed his pace throughout the day; “We’ve had a good start today on Friday. Played the situation slightly conservatively in the first practice session. I then opened up my riding this afternoon and managed to put the bike on the top of the timesheets. Overall, it’s important is to put laps together to have the bike set up for race day.”
The closest challenger was privateer Daniel Falzon (JD Racing, Yamaha YZF-R1). The YMI Superbike Championship leader managed to top the first and third practice sessions of the day, but was three tenths of a second from Herfoss, with his time of 1:20.831. The JD Racing rider experienced a very successful day and is confident about challenging for pole position tomorrow.
Local Victorian rider, Josh Waters (Team Suzuki ECSTAR, GSX-R1000R) made a massive improvement in the Third Practice session to catapult his way back into the top three overall times. Waters shaved over a second off his fastest time in the final session. His fastest overall time was a 1:20.894.
With the top three all in relative close succession, tomorrow’s Qualifying sessions won’t be ones to miss. The Spokes.com.au presents Round 3 at Winton Motor Raceway will be critical to the championship points battle and Herfoss will be satisfied to have started with the fastest time so far, to take the battle to his rivals.
