Auto Club Speedway Previews Round Two Of The AMA Pro Road Race Championship

AMA SUZUKI SUPERBIKE CHALLENGE WHEELS INTO AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY MARCH 20-22nd Top riders, entertainment, autograph session, demo rides highlight weekend of on-track, Opportunity California Motorcycle Expo happenings San Bernardino County, Calif. (March 11, 2009) – Auto Club Speedway looks to provide fans with the same racing excitement during the AMA Suzuki Superbike Challenge in 2009 as it did in 2008 when Ben Spies nipped teammate Mat Mladin at the finish line by .011 seconds the speedway’s closest finish ever when the all-new AMA Pro Road Racing series roars into Auto Club Speedway March 20-22nd. The nation’s top motorcycle riders will compete in the AMA Pro Road Racing series’ AMA Pro American Superbike, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike and AMA Pro SuperSport divisions at the 2.36-mile, 21-turn layout motorcycle course at Auto Club Speedway. Along with a weekend full of on track excitement, plan to experience a full weekend of entertainment in the Auto Club Speedway Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo, located in the infield. There, fans will find bike manufacturers like Suzuki whose display will be filled with motorcycles and rider gear; Buell, Harley-Davidson will be onsite with motorcycle demo rides for fans wanting a piece of the action and in between all the racing and entertainment, the Speedway food court will keep fans replenished. A rider autograph session is also scheduled on Sunday, March 22nd at 12:15 p.m. at the Opportunity, California Motorcycle Expo. AMA Pro American Superbike Riders to compete in the AMA Pro American Superbike races at Auto Club Speedway include winner of the AMA Pro American Superbike 2009 season opener- the Daytona 200 Ben Bostrom (No. 2 Yamaha Motor Corp. USA Yamaha R1) and teammate Josh Hayes (No. 4 Yamaha Motor Corp. USA Yamaha R1) who will both contest the full 2009 American Superbike season on Yamaha’s latest R1 motorcycle. Six-time AMA Pro American Superbike race winner at Auto Club Speedway Mat Mladin (No. 7 Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000) is looking for his seventh win. Mladin’s teammates at Yoshimura Suzuki include Tommy Hayden (No. 22 Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Blake Young (No. 79 Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000). Other Suzuki threats come from riders Aaron Yates (No. 23 Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Geoff May (No. 54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) of the Michael Jordan-owned Jordan Suzuki. The 21 Lap (50mi/80km) AMA Pro American Superbike races are scheduled for Saturday, March 21st at 2:30p.m. (race 1) and Sunday, March 22nd at 4p.m. (race 2). AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Riders gunning for an AMA Pro Daytona SportBike win at Auto Club Speedway include Chris Peris (No. 10 Erion Racing Honda CBR600RR), Jamie Hacking (No. 88 Monster Energy/Attack Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) and teammates Jason DiSalvo (No. 40 M4 Suzuki GSX-R600) and Martin Cardenas (No. 36 M4 Suzuki GSX-R600). Yamaha’s young standouts Josh Herrin (No. 8 Team Graves Yamaha YZF-R6) and 16-year-old Tommy Aquino (No. 6 Team Graves Yamaha YZF-R6) will also be among the dozens of riders with a legitimate shot at victory. The 21 Lap (50mi/80km) AMA Pro Daytona SportBike races are scheduled for Saturday, March 21st at 4p.m. (race 1) and Sunday, March 22nd at 2:30p.m. (race 2). AMA Pro SuperSport The AMA Pro SuperSport class is AMA Pro’s showcase of America’s future motorcycle racing stars today. The proving ground series is reserved strictly for up-and-coming riders between the ages of 16 and 21 who compete on 600cc sport bikes that are only minimally modified from what you will find at your local Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and other motorcycle dealerships. AMA Pro SuperSport riders are scheduled for the 17 laps (50mi/80km) race on Sunday, March 22nd at 11amPDT. Last season’s AMA Suzuki Superbike Challenge at Auto Club Speedway was a recorded-breaking, photo finish as rider Ben Spies edged teammate Mat Mladin at the finish line by .011 seconds, breaking the previous record of .014 seconds set in 2002, making it the closest Superbike race in Auto Club Speedway history.
