FOLLOWUP TO TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY TURN 8A IMPROVEMENTS The third round of the 2007 CMRA Championship Series held April 14-15 at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas, was the first CMRA event at the facility since improvements were made to the Turn 8A area with the removal of guardrail and re-grading of the runoff area in February. Over the two days of racing, 10 riders crashed in Turn 8A, and all 10 riders walked away. Eight of the crashes occurred during Saturday’s 8-hour endurance race in cold, overcast and windy conditions, while only two happened during Sunday’s sprint races in sunny, warm weather. With deteriorating pavement particularly at the apex of the turn, discussions are now underway with Texas World Speedway officials regarding repaving the Turn 8A area. Founded in 1974, Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) is an independent, non-profit organization with over 700 members. CMRA organizes and promotes motorcycle road races throughout the South Central region of the United States. For 2007, the ten CMRA events will feature sprint racing for Novice and Expert status riders, a seven-round endurance series of 4 to 8-hour-long races, mini-bike racing for riders as young as 8 years old, and an accredited new riders school. The many world and national champions who began racing with CMRA include Colin Edwards, Nicky Hayden, Tommy Hayden, Jamie James, John Kocinski, Sam McDonald, Doug Polen, Kevin Schwantz, Freddie Spencer, Ben Spies and Britt Turkington.
