Colombian Martin Cardenas finished 5th in the AMA Formula Xtreme race at VIR Saturday, riding a Suzuki GSX-R600 on Pirelli tires. Cardenas was 8th fastest in qualifying for Sunday’s AMA Supersport race, at 1:27.826 on another Suzuki GSX-R600 on Pirelli tires. Former FMV Venezuelan Superbike Champion Fernando Amantini finished 18th in the Formula Xtreme race, on a Kawasaki ZX-6R on Dunlop tires. Amantini was 26th fastest in qualifying for Sunday’s AMA Supersport race, at 1:29.618 on another Kawasaki ZX-6R on Dunlop tires. Colombian Santiago Villa qualified 21st for Sunday’s AMA Superstock race, at 1:33.035 on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 on Dunlop tires. Villa qualified 26th in AMA Superbike, turning a 1:33.117 on his Superstock-spec Suzuki GSX-R1000 on Dunlop tires. Villa did not start the Saturday Superbike race, due to handling problems. FIM Latin American and FMV Venezuelan Superbike Champion Robertino Pietri crashed his spare Suzuki GSX-R1000 Saturday morning and missed Superstock qualifying because his mechanics did not have a spare frame and other major components needed to rebuild the motorcycle. Pietri had crashed his primary racebike on Thursday; both crashes resulted in serious damage, including bent frames.
