Foggy PETRONAS Racing riders, Craig Jones and Steve Martin, furthered their testing progress on the second day of a three-day test at the German circuit of EuroSpeedway Lausitz, located between Berlin and Dresden. Another trouble free day of running with the PETRONAS FP1, coupled with continuing warm weather, enabled both riders to capitalise on their efforts from the opening day of the test as Craig improved his lap time by over a second and Steve knocked off a further half second from yesterday, to end the day with times of 1:41.3 and 1:40.2 respectively. Steve worked comprehensively through the tyre test programme required by the Championship’s sole tyre supplier, Pirelli, whilst also progressing evaluation of the latest engine developments and chassis set-up, in preparation for the German round of the Superbike World Championship at EuroSpeedway in early September. Craig was immediately on his pace from the first day of the test, concentrating his efforts on tyre testing having already achieved a chassis set-up he is comfortable with. Steve said, “We’re worked through a lot today, with tyres and also the chassis. We could probably have left the bike set-up as it was as it was handling well, but with the nature of this project we’re always striving to make the bike package even just a fraction better, in any way possible. The set-up we tried this afternoon is completely different to those I’ve used at other circuits this year and it seems to be a good direction, as I was able to post my fastest lap of the day on that setting, so we’ll try and make improvements on that tomorrow. I’ve also worked through all the tyres that Pirelli wanted me to and I’ve found a good front and rear, which I can hopefully test fully with a race simulation tomorrow.” Craig said, “We didn’t change anything with the chassis today as I’m feeling very comfortable with that and, managed to knock off over a second from my yesterday’s lap time so we’re definitely making good progress. I’ve done almost seventy laps and tested a lot of the tyres, so now I just want to have a look at some data, think about the track in my head, have a good sleep and go faster tomorrow.” Second Day Unofficial Times (race tyres): 1.
