Millenium/KWS Motorsports’ Ben Thompson is recovering from surgery to repair damage to his right hand, suffered in a crash during practice at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California last weekend. Dr. Art Ting used two titanium plates and 14 titanium screws to piece together two broken metacarpal bones, and predicted that Thompson will be able to ride again in about three weeks. Ting performed the surgery Monday, at his Fremont, California clinic. In the meantime, the team plans to field Lee Acree on a GSX-R1000 at Infineon Raceway, May 16-18. More, from a press release issued by Diana Grisales: Colombian racer Santiago Villa, who crashed at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California on Sunday, is now at Santa Fe Hospital in Bogota, Colombia, and will have surgery performed on his left knee and left foot by Dr. Gamal Zayed. The Roadracingworld.com Suzuki rider is optimistic that he will be back at the track for the next AMA race, at Infineon Raceway May 16-18. “It’s a shame that this happened,” said Villa, who crashed out of the Superstock race and suffered a concussion as well as broken bones in both feet and his left knee. Villa was treated and released from Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Sunday night. “I was feeling very good with my Suzuki,” he added. “I hope to be OK for Infineon. I want to say thanks to my crew Dennis Zickrick and Rick Matheny and all my team for all the hard work at Fontana.”
